Investigation of non-uniform oxidation based on a mechanochemical phase field model with nonlinear reaction kinetics and large inelastic deformation

Abstract A mechanochemical model is proposed to investigate the non-uniform oxidation of thermal barrier coatings (TBCs) that involves large inelastic deformation and nonlinear reaction kinetics. The large-deformation theory incorporates higher-order term geometric nonlinearity for a more precise description stress evolution in an oxide layer. effect stresses on kinetics considered, which expressed as Eshelby tensor account conformational volume change energy. adopted accurate nonequilibrium thermodynamic processes. 2D simulations reveal growth, three modes oxide-metal interfacial morphology evolution, tensile concentrations scale. These simulation results agree with experimental observations cannot be described by previous models. With model, it further demonstrated stable significantly reduced can achieved increasing creep rate flatness interface. This thus provides approach extend service time TBCs.
